Hi, I'm Zak.

I've just finished studying law and I'm waiting on my graduation papers. Scroll down to see what I've been working on.

A bit about me

I'm Zak, a law graduate. I'm not licensed yet and I haven't worked in a firm, so I'm using this time to build something of my own.

Outside of law, fishing is what really helps me. It's been a really good thing for my mental health, and I'd like more people to find that out for themselves.

Projects

Here's something I've been working on.

Fishing for everyone

A personal project to get fishing in front of a wider audience, as a way to look after your head.

  • Personal project
  • Mental health
  • Community
  • Native fish & nature

Why I started it

  1. A lot of us are struggling

Plenty of young people today feel low, and don't have a proper way to relax or let their feelings out.

  2. It helped me

In my own experience, fishing has been a really good thing for my mental health. It's calm, it's outside, and you're not rushed.

  3. But it has a stigma

People have a fixed idea of who goes fishing. That keeps a lot of young people, and people from minorities, from ever trying it.

  4. Nature gets a voice too

I want people to get curious about our native fish species. The more people who care about them, the better the chance they get proper ecological protection.

The goal

Promote fishing to younger people and to minorities, as a way to unwind and let emotions out.

Help build a kinder community for people who would traditionally be left out or pushed away.

And along the way, get more people interested in native fish species, in the hope that it leads to better ecological protections.

Fishing helped me, but it isn't a replacement for professional support. If you're struggling, please talk to someone you trust or a mental health service near you.
